Question by kepinz: Short Sale in our property, realtor push me to get prepaidlegal.com lawyer involve..necessary / not?
We’ve received a notice of “trustee of sale” in the end of July 2010 ( pretty much they are going to sale our property by Aug 25, 2010 ), then we immediately contact a Realtor that specialist in short sale. As today ( Aug 9, 2010 ), I actually already have potential buyer that really serious, have deposit $ 5K for the escrow and have 40% downpayment ready.
Now, this Realtor been pushing me to get lawyer from Prepaidlegal.com involve to speed-up the process since first time we met. He said this is the law firm that represent “Kobe Bryant” used few years ago ? ( is that even true ?!? ). I know Prepaidlegal.com is like MLM marketing, which mean he will get some $ $ if I sign-up. But what’s up with the reminder “have you sign up yet ?” almost every day. He said he will reimburse the 1st month when I sign-up with prepaidlegal.com
Our lender is Bank of America, which I heard it won’t be easy. Is it really necessary to bring lawyer in this short sale process ?? This is our first property, so any advice would be much much much appreciated !!
For the first few people that respond :
is it because my lender is BOFA and they pain in the butt to deal with ? is that why I need to get a lawyer ? thanks for the respond !

You will need the lawyer when your lender sues you. You cannot do a short sale without written permission from BOA.
